Connecting church and school
Beyond the assembly there are many ways your local church and community can benefit the school. Schools benefit because it enables community cohesion, financial support, and (sometimes) free help in school.
As a church you must be aware that connecting with your school is first and primarily to benefit the school! As churches we are, if you like, spiritual specialists which is often a grey or difficult area for schools to engage with. Sensitively we can help.
Ministry in schools is special, and those who know something about spiritual health have a definate role to play in the life of a school. But it has to be a partnership – school is primarily a place of education. I believe that education should include the spiritual. It’s about informing children and young people about spirituality and faith so that they can make an informed decision and be aware of their own thoughts of the matter and when they are being influenced by others. It’s about being Christ in the school context with the whole school community, supporting and ministering to the whole school. In a world of change, sometimes people need something solid to grasp onto.
That’s ministry – loving people, caring, and bringing gold, even if it’s only a nugget.
